The way Kanye West (now known as Ye) is harassing Kim Kardashian worries me. I've been writing this story for a couple of weeks now. I start, then I stop. Does anyone care? Will anyone read ANOTHER story about Kim and Ye?

Maybe you're saying, "What harassment, he just loves her!" TeenVogue has an excellent story by Jenn M. Jackson...

Kim announced their divorce in February 2021. Since then, Ye’s Instagram posts, most of which are now deleted, have arguably amounted to public harassment.

From releasing private text conversations to buying a house across the street from Kim to asking fans to scream in the face of Kim’s new partner, 28-year-old comedian Pete Davidson, Ye’s behavior has raised many concerns about the ways that emotional abuse often masquerades as undying devotion and love.

If you haven't seen the Trever Noah monologue on this topic, please scroll down to watch it. The most important part to me was this...

“What we’re seeing ... is one of the most powerful, one of the richest women in the world, unable to get her ex to stop texting her, to stop chasing after her, to stop harassing her...Just think about that for a moment. Think about how powerful Kim Kardashian is, and she can’t get that to happen.”

That made my heart skip a beat.

Let's circle back to what Trever Noah said about being rich and powerful and not being able to stop the harassment. Rich or poor, that happens all the time says Jeannie T, the Women's Shelter and Support Center in Rochester, Minnesota.

"Oh, it happens all the time...And unfortunately she's going through domestic violence and it isn't always physical."

Does having money make the situation different? The Women's Shelter works with survivors or victims that fit all levels of the socio-economic scale. Rich, poor, or maybe somewhere in the middle.

"(those with more money) maybe they don't need to go to a shelter because they can afford to go to the Holiday Inn for a few days. Or they can relocate someplace else out of state a little easier."

Jeannie went on to say that even if you have means, it doesn't always follow that you have control of that money. Abusers love control, "So even if they're well off they find those credit cards or ATM cards are canceled the minute they choose to leave, so then they have no access to that money."

The point of all this is to say, please, see Kim Kardashian as a human. Show her some grace in this situation. Dismissing her fear and well-being is super easy because we don't know her.

We do know the people around us, though, and the people around us see and hear our opinions. Please make sure the opinions you're expressing won't lead to someone telling an abused woman, "It's not that big a deal" or "Look he's a good guy, he just loves you so much!"

Well, What Can I Do To Help Then?

Their abuser is already telling them what to do all the time. Don't tell 'em what to do, don't boss 'em around, just listen.

As always, if you have a comment, complaint, or concern about something I wrote here, please let me know: james.rabe@townsquaremedia.com
