Suspicious Activity Call Leads to Major Marijuana Bust in Rochester

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)-  A traffic stop for window tint led to a large marijuana bust in Rochester.

That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court on Monday. 

Rochester police made the bust on Saturday evening after responding to a report regarding suspicious activity, the court document says. 

Rochester Man Facing Felony Charge for Marijuana Bust

28-year-old Donte Dandre Wilkins of Rochester is charged with a felony count of first-degree cannabis possession. 

The complaint says he was behind the wheel of a vehicle found in the 1800 block of 18th Ave. NW by the officer responding to the suspicious circumstance call. 

The vehicle was described as having “obviously illegally tinted windows” in the complaint. Wilkins began backing up as the officer arrived and was approaching the vehicle. 

He stated he “did nothing wrong,” rolled up the window and pulled out of the area, the complaint says.

The officer, who detected the odor of marijuna during his brief interaction with Wilkins, initiated a traffic stop for the window tint, the complaint says. 

Over 3 Pounds of Marijuana Found in Lunchbox

Wilkins got out of the vehicle and admitted to having marijuana in it. He pulled out a lunch box that had nearly 3.5 pounds of cannabis flower in it, the court document says. 

State law allows a person to possess up to two ounces of marijuana while in public and up to two pounds of marijuana while in private. 

Wilkins was released without bail following his first court appearance on Monday. He is due back in court next month.
