There were rumors floating around earlier this week that things weren't looking good for this retail chain, and now it's been confirmed: all its stores in Minnesota are closing.

We're talking, of course, about the Herbergers retail chain. Its parent company, Bon-Ton, was bought by liquidators earlier this week and Wednesday, the chain confirmed that it was closing all its locations in Minnesota.

That includes the Rochester Herbergers, which, of course, has been a fixture at Rochester's Apache Mall for years. It's one of 212 Herberger locations across the country that will be going out of business, some as soon as 10 to 12 weeks, according to this BringMeTheNews story.

The company, which had been in business for 160 years, also operates several stores similar to Herbergers, including Boston Store, Bergner’s, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s and Younkers. Most of those are slated to close, as well, the story noted.

Here in Minnesota, 21 stores are affected and will be closing their doors in addition to the Rochester location-- including stores in Austin and Albert Lea.

The story said Bon-Ton released this statement regarding the Herbergers chain going out of business: "We're committed to working constructively to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the impact on associates, customers, vendors and the communities we serve."

The company had originally filed for bankruptcy in January hoping to find a new owner that would allow the company to keep operating. But the winning bidders in a bankruptcy court auction earlier this week were two liquidation firms.
