Once again the IRS is alerting the public to be aware of telephone scam artists claiming to be with the IRS.  Often times the caller demands money or they may also say you have a refund due you, trying to trick you into giving out private and/or banking information.  The IRS reminds you that the IRS will NEVER ask for credit or debit card information over the phone.  They will NEVER threaten to involve local law enforcement or have you arrested for not paying your taxes.  Additionally, the IRS does not use email, text messages or other social media to discuss your tax issues.  If you receive a phone call from a person claiming to be from the IRS demanding money, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.  You can also contact the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov and file an "IRS Telephone Scam" complaint.  For more information on tax scams, go to irs.gov and type "scam" in the search box.
