Mayo 2nd in 2015 Hospital Ranking
Washington, DC (KROC AM News) - Mayo Clinic has slipped back to second place in an annual ranking of hospitals by US News and World Report.
Mayo was No. 1 last year for the first time in the history of the rankings. This year’s top spot went to Massachusetts General, which was second last year. Johns Hopkins was tied with UCLA Medical Center for 3rd this year, followed by Cleveland Clinic.
U.S. News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals for the 2015-16 Best Hospitals rankings. Only 15 of them made the Honor Roll in the 26th edition of the rankings.
Mayo earned more top rankings in individual specialties than any other provider based on reputation, services and volumes, safety and clinical outcomes.
The 8 categories where Mayo ranked #1 are:
Mayo ranked No. 2 in three additional specialties – cardiology and heart surgery; ear, nose and throat; and orthopedics – and No. 3 in cancer.
