The Houston Hurricanes were patient at the plate, and it paid off big time as they took down Fillmore Central/Lanesboro 19-4 in Section 1A East Sub-section Softball action Monday night.

The Hurricanes continued to get base runners on and move them around efficiently as they jumped out to a 3-0 after the first inning behind a bases-clearing 3 RBI double from Tessa Peterson. Houston added more on in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 10-0 lead into the 5th.

Houston knew they had the Falcons on the ropes, and then got a 2-RBI double from Amber Chapel, who then came around to score on a throwing error to give the Hurricanes a 13-0 headed into the bottom of the 5th.

The Falcons needed four runs to stay alive, and they were not going down without a fight. With two outs, Kjerstiana Corson doubled, which was followed by singles from Ajay Jorgenson and Makaila Eickhoff to load the bases. Then, Kelsey Biel drilled a triple to dead center to make it 13-3, Biel scored on the next hit and the Falcons were there to fight another day.

Houston was able to capitalize in the 6th, adding yet another six runs behind some heads-up base running and advanced to the next round of the playoffs with the 19-4 win.

Peterson was 4-for-5 with four RBI to lead the way for Houston, while Biel led the Falcons with two hits and three RBI to earn the KFIL Players of the Game.
