The 4th of July is coming up this Saturday, so the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division has shared reminders for fireworks safety for this weekend. Make sure to play it safe, we want to see you safe and in one piece come Monday!

Here are some of the reminders from the state fire marshals:

  • Put used fireworks in a bucket of water.
  • Do NOT relight a dud.
  • Keep fireworks away from kids.
  • Only use fireworks that are legal in Minnesota.
  • Point fireworks away from people and animals.
  • Use fireworks in an open area away from trees and away from houses.

Unfortunately, there are many people who are injured due to fireworks on the 4th of July. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has data on fireworks injuries reported to Minnesota hospitals. Here's what the data says about the body parts most injured by fireworks last year:

Eyes: 18%
Face, Head and Neck: 28%
Hands and Fingers: 23%
Arms: 3%
Trunk (torso): 3%
Feet and Legs: 3%
Unknown: 22%

More than 43% of last year's reported injuries were burns.

And finally, they shared some ideas for safely celebrating the 4th of July this year. Some of these ideas include a backyard virtual fireworks viewing party, have fun with glow sticks or red, white, and blue silly string, and draw fireworks on your driveway in chalk.

What will you be doing on the 4th of July? You can share pictures from your celebration with us on our free app!
