Fillmore Central Tops LeRoy-Ostrander With Late Push
The Falcons were trailing the Cardinals 43-42, and then Logan Corson hit a 3 to give the Falcons a 45-43 lead and never looked back. The Falcons were able to close out the game defensively and at the free-throw line to top the Cardinals 51-45.
The LeRoy-Ostrander Cardinals had a big push at the end of the first half to take a 26-20 lead into the break. Trey Hungerholt was phenomenal in this one, tailing 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cardinals. Hungerholt was great at facilitating the basketball, shooting the deep ball and attacking the basket. The Cardinals struggled from the field as a team, but Hungerholt kept them in the game.
Corson and Josh Peters led the way for Fillmore Central. The Falcons were able to go on a 6-0 run to start the second half, and then battled hard throughout the rest of the game.
The Cardinals had the size advantage, but the Falcons were powered by will, and were able to grab key rebounds throughout the second half. That was a big difference, as the Cardinals were able to dominate the boards in the first half and get many second-chance points.
With the Falcons sharpening up on the glass, they got a couple of key 3's from Corson and Peters to edge out the victory. Corson finished with 14 points while Peters had a team-high 17.
The Falcons closed out the game on the defensive end, not allowing LeRoy-Ostrander to attack the rim freely, and they secured the basketball to finish it out.
