The Fillmore County Commission approved the sale of 337 acres to the DNR at their latest meeting. The land will be an addition to the Choice Wildlife Management Area.

WMAs are public lands that are used for hunting, fishing, hiking and other low impact activities. The land acquired was from the Larson Family, which straddles between the townships of Norway and Preble.

The Trust for Public Land is assisting in the acquisition of the land, and this acquisition is part of the Southeast Minnesota Bluffland program. They are seeking to conserve some of the most environmentally sensitive wildlife habitat areas to provide an opportunity for public hunting and fishing.

The Larson family contacted the Trust for Public Land and asked for assistance in protecting the land that has been in their family for generations. This land is an excellent habitat or deer, turkey and other wildlife and will provide good opportunities for public hunting, fishing and wildlife observation.
