Bloomington, MN (KROC-AM News) - The federal Department of Homeland Security says over $2.3 million in FEMA disaster assistance has been approved for homeowners and renters with losses from the flooding and severe storms that hit southern Minnesota in late September.

The assistance was awarded to 605 individuals and households, including $2.1 million in housing grants used to cover short term rental costs and home repair expenses. So far, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has received 1330 applications for individual disaster assistance from people in Freeborn, Steele, Waseca, Rice, Le Sueur, Blue Earth and Hennepin Counties.

The deadline for applying to receive assistance under the federal major disaster declaration is Monday. For more information, or to apply, visit the FEMA webpage DisasterAssistance.gov.
