Don’t be caught without a seat belt on, as officers will be on the lookout for violations as part of the Click It or Ticket campaign.

The campaign, which runs through June 4, brings Minnesota in what’s called a “Border to Border” operation, where officers nationwide will be especially focused on seat belt violations from 4-8 p.m. on Monday.

While Minnesota has one of the nation’s highest seat belt law compliance rates in the nation at 93 percent, that rate has been trending slightly lower since peaking in 2013 at just under 95 percent.

The crackdown will also focus on motorists who fail to properly restrain children in vehicles. State law requires the use of a child restraint device until they reach a height of 4 foot 9 inches or the age 8.

If you do happen to be caught without a seat belt on here in Minnesota, a seat belt ticket will sting you for $25, but can cost more than $100 with fees.

So do the right thing, and always buckle up!
