It was a pitching duel early, but a 12-run 5th inning was capped off by a Haley Goetzinger Grand Slam, pushed the Chatfield Gophers past the GMLOK Bulldogs Friday night in Chatfield on Cool 104!

Alexis Chase got the start for the Gophers and was dominate. She struck out ten across the five innings, and was able to produce at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Chase's performance earned her KVGO Player of the Game.

Alayna Meskill got the start for the Knights, as she was cruising through the first four innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth. The first 13 batters of the inning for the Gophers reached base. It started with a single from Britney Fretland, followed by a walk to McKenna Daniels and then Teagan Allen reached base. Goetzinger singled home the first run, followed by a two-rbi double by Lexi Chase. Carlie Berge drove in a run, and then Shelby Isensee drove two home on a double.

Two more runs scored, and with the bases loaded, Goetzinger hit a grand slam to dead center field.

Courtney Fate earned KVGO Player of the Game award by going 2-for-2 at the dish, along with making some solid plays in left field.

With the win, the Gophers finished their regular season with an undefeated record of 19-0, while the Bulldogs fell to 15-4.
