Driver Falls Asleep In Fatal Wreck In Winona County
New Hartford Township, MN (KROC AM News) - One teenager is dead after a driver fell asleep on I-90 near the New Hartford Township in Winona County Saturday night.
The Minnesota State Patrol says a 16-year-old driver of a Toyota RAV4 was headed eastbound I-90 when the driver fell asleep around 11:00 p.m., left the roadway and rolled. The center-rear passenger of the Toyota not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle onto the roadway and hit by an eastbound Ford and killed.
That passenger was identified as 15-year-old Gao Jer Vang and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, along with the other two passengers, were taken to Gunderson Lutheran but their injuries were not identified as they are minors.
The driver of the Ford, 48-year-old Leaann Bohn, was not injured in the wreck.
