A big second-half from Mariah Bell and Belle Berg help lead the Chatfield Lady Gophers to a Three Rivers Conference win over conference foe Lewiston-Altura 68-55 in Chatfield Friday night on KVGO!

It was a fun game, with both teams playing very aggressive. Players were diving all over the floor for loose basketballs making the game very fun and intense.

Each squad played fast, and mixed up their defenses quiet a bit. They both utilized the full-court press, and created as many turnovers as possible.

The Cardinals took an early 17-16 lead in the game, but the Gophers were able to answer right back with a three from Macy Pederson, to take a 19-17 lead. Chatfield never relinquished that lead, but the Cardinals were never out of the ball game.

The Gophers took a 34 -30 lead into the half, and were led by Pederson's eight points, followed by Mariah Bell's seven. The Cardinals got great play from Josie Greden, has she poured in eight first-half points to lead Lewiston-Altura.

The Gophers came out of halftime with the mentality of getting inside, and they did just that. Bell went to the free-throw line early and often - helping give the Gophers a 49-38 lead.

The Cardinals came right back with a run of their own, and were able to cut the lead to three at 50-47 with the help of a 9-1 run, but they just couldn't crawl back enough. Bell and Berg help lead the Gopher defense down the stretch. They were very active in passing lanes, helping create some turnovers.

The Gophers connected on some key shots down the stretch, including some free throws to get the victory.

The Gophers were led by Bell with 18 points, while Belle Berg had a great game with 17 points. Pederson chipped in 10 and Kyra Dokken added 13.

Lewiston-Altura was led by Greden who finished with 17 points, including three 3-pointers,  Myia Ruzek contributed 12 and Haili Cady added 10.
