Caledonia Downs Stewartville To Take Section 1AA Crown
Terrific defense and a fast-strike offense led the Caledonia Warriors to the Boys Section 1AA title Thursday night over Stewartville 71-53 at the Mayo Civic Arena.
Both teams were hot from the field to start the game, but a second-half surge from Caledonia started by some tremendous, physical defense, led the way to a big lead and the eventual win.
The Warriors led by one at the half, 37-36, behind a stellar first-half from Eli King, who had 16 first-half points. Caledonia struggled to stop Stewartville's Will Tschetter who had 20 in the first half.
The second half was a different story.
The Warriors defense came flying out of the second half and disrupted Stewartville's offense in a hurry. While the Tigers struggled to get in the flow of their offense, the hot shooting of Caledonia continued.
Noah King had a team-high 24 points, including connecting on six 3's, while Eli King added 22 for Caledonia.
The 37-36 lead turned into a quick 67-46 lead for the Warriors.
The 30-10 lead to open the half was enough for the Warriors to take home the Section Championship. The Tigers played well but struggled to get their offense going in the second half and the Warriors took advantage.
The win claims the Section 1AA title for Caledonia, which they last won in 2018.
