Yesterday, we shared a story about Walmart in St. Cloud locking up their socks and underwear because people shoplift them so often. I am one of those extremely curious people - One weird story like this sends me down the rabbit hole that is the internet search. That's how I stumbled upon this interesting list. Did you know that shoplifting costs U.S. stores $13 billion a year? Yikes!

If you told me to guess what the most commonly shoplifted item is, I'd say pregnancy tests or lipstick. Boy was I way off. You won't believe what gets pocketed (I'm not even sure how they manage this) most often. Here are the top 9 according to Business Insurance Quotes, starting from the bottom of the list:

9. Clothing

8. Smartphones

7. Over-the-counter-drugs

6. Laptops

5. Alcohol

4. Cosmetics

3. Baby Formula

2. Razors

1. Meat - Seriously, never would have guessed meat! But, apparently, "in the past several years, meat has often emerged as the top item stolen from stores, as regular shoppers and kleptomaniacs alike feel the urge to slide a steak into their coat pocket. Most meat thieves go for the higher-end products, such as filet mignon or lamb chops." And now you know.
