La Crosse, WI (KROC-AM News) - Wisconsin officials have released the name of the La Crosse Police Officer who was shot in the chest in a shootout with a suspect Saturday afternoon.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is leading the investigation into the incident and says Officer Dustin Darling was confronting a suspect in a domestic disturbance when the man pulled out a handgun and fired a bullet that struck the officer’s protective vest. The 6 year veteran of the La Crosse Police Department then returned fire and 34-year-old Allen Kruk suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Officer Darling was taken to a La Crosse hospital where he was treated and released, while Kruk was listed in critical condition at last report.
