Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Southeast Minnesota Friday
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of southeast Minnesota as the area prepares for the next winter storm of the season.
The National Weather Service in LaCrosse is forecasting 2-6 inches of snow to fall Friday, with the earliest snowfall beginning around 7 am. The Winter Weather Advisory is issued from 6 am Friday until Midnight Saturday morning.
Motorists should plan on slippery road conditions that will mainly impact the evening commute.
The heaviest band of snow is expected to fall in areas to the west, as central Minnesota and Iowa prepare for 7-10 inches of snow, according to the NWS.
A winter storm impacts Minnesota and Iowa Friday and Friday night, with the greatest impacts towards the Interstate 35 corridor. Snow amounts steadily taper off from west to east as one moves towards the Mississippi River.
In addition to the snow, winds gusting up to 30 mph could cause patchy blowing and drifting snow, especially in open areas towards central Minnesota and Iowa. Those who are planning to travel should monitor for forecast updates.
