I am talking about the top 5 Viking players ever.

Now I know there is always going to be a debate about this, but here is one list. According to the website cheatsheet.com, these are the top 5 Viking players.

Number 5---Alan Page---1 of the 4 defensive linemen in what became known as the Purple People Eaters. Making 4 trips to the Super Bowl, the Vikings relied on them to punish the O-line. And have an added toughness, well because the Vikings didn't always have an indoor stadium to play in.

Number 4---Randall McDaniel---One of the stars of the O-Line.  Randall helped lead the Vikings in 1998 to set the season scoring record....556 points. Known for his ability to get off the line and be out in the open. Being a lead blocker and also very effective in the Vikings screen pass plays.

Number 3---Chris Carter---Even if you are not a Vikings fan, you know this name. One of the top receivers not just on the Vikings, but of all time. Carter has some pretty impressive numbers with the Vikings, grabbing 1,004 catches, 12,383 yards and 110 receiving touchdowns in his 12 years with the Vikings. Had to be one of the best sideline receivers in history.

Number 2---Randy Moss---The article on cheatsheet.com compares Moss to Jerry Rice. Being mentioned in the same sentence as Rice is an accomplishment in its own. Moss though, is well deserved of it. He was one receiver that was well above the rest with his speed and ability to make some crazy catches.  Through his 8 year career with the Vikings, Moss had 587 catches of 9,316 yards and also 92 touchdowns.  Imagine Chris Carter and Randy Moss on the same field, playing for the same team.  That had to be a nightmare for defenses.

And Number 1---Fran Tarnkenton--In his time, set a new standard for quarterbacks.  Using his legs to escape the pocket and make a play out of nothing. Hence the nickname, Scramblin' Fran. His career numbers for the Vikings, 33,098 passing yards and 239 touchdowns.  Those were just passing.  Rushing, picked up another 2,548 yards and 22 touchdowns. Not something a quarterback was known for back then. Only 3 other quarterbacks have had more rushing yards.

A few notable mentions in my eyes, have to include Adrian Peterson in the mix.  Almost breaking the single season rushing record. And if you were in a 4th and 2, who else would you trust. Fast, able to cut on a dime, and strength.  One of the greatest running backs of all time.

And I have to add Jared Allen to the list. Allen has the Viking record for sacks in a season, consecutive games with a sack, and safeties in a season.  Would you want to see him on the other side of the line, NOPE.

Check out the article on cheatsheet.com and see for yourself. The list is sure to change over time, but there you have it.  The top 5 Minnesota Viking players.
