Thursday, KFIL broadcasted the baseball game between Houston and Rushford-Peterson. It was another perfect day to sit out and enjoy some local baseball! Both teams feature a bounty of young talent, but have struggled to pick up a lot of wins on the season.

The visiting Hurricanes struck first on an rbi single by Jeremiah Johnson in the first frame. In the top of the second, with runners at the corners, they pulled off a double-steal to tack on a run, then added another to extend the lead to 3-0. Unfortunately for Houston, the tables turned in the third. Rushford-Peterson started a string of ten unanswered runs by plating 3 in the 3rd. Mason McManimon-Meyers and Dawson Dahl each had rbi hits. R-P opened up a five-run lead with a 5-run fourth. Dahl drove in two more, and Ethan Anderson knocked in one. R-P also had a trick up their sleeve. With two outs, Caleb Thompson purposely took off for second base early with Dawson Dahl on third, and stayed alive in a rundown long enough for Dahl to sneak up the line and spring for home, scoring easily without a throw. The Trojans tried the same earlier in the game, but it lead to the runner thrown out at home. R-P added single runs in fifth and sixth with rbi hits by Carter Wiedemann and Caleb Thompson, respectively, to give us the final score of 10-3. Ben Ansell, a sophomore for RP, picked up the win, going all seven innings and throwing 126 pitches!

Rushford-Peterson improved to 5-14, while Houston fell to 3-15 on the year.

The ‘Player of the Game’ for Houston was senior Jeremiah Johnson. He had two of the Hurricanes six hits, and was pretty solid at shortstop defensively. For R-P, the winner was sophomore center fielder Dawson Dahl. Dawson made a couple nice running catches, and lead the way hitting from the clean-up spot with a 2-for-3 day with 3 RBI, 2 stolen bases, and 2 runs scored.
