The Spring Grove Lions are making their first trip to the state tournament and will have a tough task ahead of them to open things up. The Lions drew #1 Springfield, the Section 2A champions, in the quarterfinals at Williams Arena. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. Thursday and the action can be heard on 103.1 KFIL.

The Lions will meet a high-powered Tigers attack that is centered around  6-4 Senior Guard Issac Fink, who averages just over 31 points per game, along with a team-high 11.8 rebounds. Not to mention he also leads the team with 5.6 assists a game.

Yeah, the dude can play ball. 6-3 Junior Guard Decker Scheffler is another talented player the Tigers will have on the court. Scheffler averages just over 22 points per game and has connected on over 44 percent of his three-pointers this season.

The Tigers can score, as a team, they average over 88 points per game and have crossed the 100-point mark seven times this season.

The defense will be key for Spring Grove in this matchup against the Springfield Tigers who like to go up and down the floor, and this season it has been a strength for them. They allow just over 46 points per game, and can play well in the half-court.

The squad is led by Senior Alex Folz who averages just over 18 points per game. Senior Ethan Matzke and Sophmore Caden Grinde each average over 11 points per game, as the Lions bring a balanced scoring attack to the game.

It will be a great game as the Lions look to perform well in their first trip to the state tournament ever.
