Two Minnesota State Fish Records Broken
Apparently, shattering fishing records is a common theme here in Minnesota.
Fishing is a huge part of our state's culture. Many of us find success in the 10,000 lakes we have from border to border. There were two state fishing records that were recently broken for the size of the fish. One for a Whitefish and the older for a Golden Redhorse. So who got the bragging rights this time?
According to the Department of Natural Resources, Billy King recently discovered amazing ice fishing in Minnesota. Originally from Oklahoma, King and a few other Anglers were fishing in April when he caught a huge... when I say huge, I mean huge Whitefish. He told the DNR that this was an amazing trip and that he discovered what "Minnesota Nice" is. So how big was this Whitefish? Well, it weighed in at 13 pounds and 9 ounces. The size of a small dog if you think about it. All in all, I guess you could say that this was a trip to remember!
Can you imagine breaking your own record? Most people hope they can break a single record, let alone their own record. Ethan Rasset broke his own state record by almost five ounces. Which in the fishing world is huge! His original record for the Golden Redhorse fish was 4 pounds, 8 ounces. His buddy and he were fishing on Otter Trail River a few months ago, Rasset caught a 4 pound, 13-ounce fish. Getting your name in the record books for a second time would be so exciting! We'll have to see what other records come up these next few months.
