Two Minnesota Gymnasts Will Compete At The World Championship In October
The other day the USA Gymnastic Championship took place and two girls from Minnesota were on each side of Olympic Gold Medalist Simone Biles on the podium. Wouldn't that be an honor knowing that you placed under a legend? I would be beside myself if I was one of these two elite athletes. Placing second and third, these two young women now have the opportunity to compete at the World Gymnastic Championship in October with the hopes of getting a bid to the Olympics, according to KARE 11. This competition will be held in Germany with a whole different level of competitors. The article says the girls will have some time to recover and prepare to perform at their best.
This article says Grace McCallum, from Isanti, and Sunisa Lee, from St. Paul, were both competing against Biles when she set a record with her new tumbling pass during her floor routine and her memorable beam dismount. The two 16-year-olds hope that their dreams of experiencing an Olympics come true. If Lee finds herself on the Olympic team this upcoming Olympics, she will be the first Hmong-American to be represented at the Olympics. Both would be huge honors for this young girl.
The article says that McCallum and Lee are friends even though they are competing against one another. The girls are so grateful for the support and hope that it'll take them to the next level in the coming months.
