Toddler Allegedly Abused by Mother Dies at Rochester Hospital
Mankato, MN (KROC-AM News) - Prosecutors in Blue Earth County are preparing to draw up a new criminal complaint against a Mankato woman who was arrested in Rochester last week.
27-year-old Chelsea Olinger was charged last week with felony assault for allegedly inflicting the severe injuries that had left her 16-month-old child on life support at St. Mary's Hospital. KEYC-TV is reporting that the Blue Earth County Attorney has confirmed the toddler has since died from those wounds, which included severe head injuries, broken ribs, and a lacerated liver. Court documents indicate a Mayo Clinic Doctor told investigators the injuries were inconsistent with accidental causes.
Pat McDermott told the Mankato TV station his office is expected to amend the criminal complaint filed against Olinger to reflect the death of her child. As of this morning, Olinger was still being held in the Blue Earth County Jail on $500,000 conditional bail.
