In the free-agent draft in 1980 on today's date, first pick went to the New York Mets who chose 18-year old Darryl Strawberry.  Second pick went to the Toronto Blue Jays who selected shortstop Garry Harris.

In 1937, Josh Gibson of the Negro League belted out a drive that hit two feet below the edge of Yankee Stadium, which measures approximately 580 feet from home plate.  Had the hit not been impeded, the ball could have easily traveled 700 feet.
