The Golden Gophers Do Something They Haven’t Done Since 1973
Last night, for the first time since 2009, the Golden Gopher Men's Basketball team went to the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin and pulled off a victory.
Last time, Lawrence Westbrook led the charge as the Gophers knocked off Wisconsin 78-74 in OT, which was the team's first win ever in the Kohl Center. Now, 10 years later, the Gophers were able to knock off No 22 Wisconsin 59-52.
With the win, the Gophers Basketball team joined the Gophers' football team who beat Wisconsin at Camp Randall in football for the first time since 1994, bringing the Axe back to Minnesota for the first time in 14 years.
With both the Men's Basketball and Football teams winning in Wisconsin, it allows Gopher fans to look all the way back to 1972-73, as the LAST time in an academic calendar year that the Gophers won in Wisconsin in both sports.
That is way too long of a streak to happen, but thankfully the Gophers got the monkey off their back. Anytime you can beat Wisconsin at anything, it is a good thing! (Sorry, Wisconsin faithful)
