KFIL’s Luke Lonien Says ‘Thank You’ As He Departs
For the past six years, I have had the incredible opportunity of broadcasting high school sports across southeast Minnesota. The latest trip to U.S Bank Stadium to cover the Prep Bowl was my last as an employee at Townsquare Media and 103.1 KFIL.
While I have found a new challenge and career opportunity to take on, I can't help but look back at my time at the radio station fondly. I had a ton of fun broadcasting games and covering teams from across the area.
From preview shows to Coach's Corner, to live game broadcasts, my goal was always the same. Highlight the athletes, because they earned it.
These shows and efforts to highlight the athletes are not possible without area coaches, Activities Directors, and the community.
Coaches take the time to send in stats and information as well as record interviews.
Activities Directors work with us so we can have a spot to sit and everything we need to get set up to make our broadcasts possible.
Of course, the community is there to follow along, and share that our radio station is covering the game. Many area businesses sponsor our broadcasts, and without them, it wouldn't be possible.
We can't do that without any of you. Thank you.
I was 22 years old when I was first hired at KFIL Radio. I started working as a game-time engineer back in the studio, and about two months later I broadcasted my first game. Now I am married, my wife and I bought our first house, we have a beautiful daughter, and the most lovable dog you'll ever meet.
There are so many memorable games and playoff runs that will always stay in my mind. It has been a ton of fun broadcasting all of these games, and there are so many more people to thank.
Thank you to Townsquare Media and KFIL Radio for giving me the opportunity. To all of my broadcast partners that joined me on the air, and laughed at my usually not-so-funny jokes out of courtesy, thank you.
Thank you to everyone that worked in our office and supported our broadcasts throughout the years. It has been so much fun to work with all of you.
Stay tuned to 103.1 KFIL this winter, as it will still be your sports leader in southeast Minnesota.
I'll still be in the area, so if you see me out and about, don't be afraid to say hi. Thank you so much for listening, it has been a fun ride.
Deuces.
