Winona

Birth entered into a plea agreement in January about a week before he was scheduled to stand trial.

Boaters discovered the body of a newborn floating in the Mississippi River about seven miles south of Winona in September of 2011.

He was convicted in November 2024 of first and second-degree murder charges.

The remains were located at Lock and Dam 6, which is about 9 miles downriver from Winona and was the southern end of the area searched on April 4.

The Winona County Sheriff's Office says the recovery mission was difficult due to the location.

Two vehicles carrying three people were involved in the collision. The State Patrol responded to the crash shortly after 12:30 Sunday afternoon.

Police say Martinson was last seen in downtown Winona.

The 3rd defendant in the case is awaiting trial.

Winona County authorities say 3 homes were hit by gunfire.

The criminal complaint also says the defendant in the case was an adult man when he and the victim were engaged in a sexual relationship.
