Spring Grove Draws Top-Ranked Springfield In State Tournament Opener
The Spring Grove Lions Boys Basketball team is headed to state for the first time ever, and they drew a perennial power in Class A right out of the gate.
The Lions will open up the Class A State Quarterfinals against #1 seeded Springfield, the champions of Section 2, at 11 a.m. at Williams Arena Thursday, March 21st.
The Springfield Tigers come into the tournament with a 27-2 record, with their two losses coming to Minnesota Valley Lutheran in OT, who was ranked 3rd in the state but fell to Springfield in the Section 2A Final, and Minneota by 3. Minneota was ranked number 1 in the state headed into the Section Tournament.
Spring Grove will have their hands full with the Tigers, who average 88 points per game coming into the State Tournament. The Lions offense isn't bad, either, scoring just over 61 points per game.
It should be a fun atmosphere at Williams Arena Thursday afternoon as the Lions and Tigers tip-off in what should be a fast-paced, up-and-down game.
