From Fillmore County Sheriff Tom Kaase:  To keep motorists safe this summer, the Fillmore County Sheriff's Office, Preston Police Department and Chatfield Police Department will be conducting increased speed patrols July 10 through 26.  This is part of a statewide speed enforcement effort coordinated by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.  According to statistics, speeding is the most common traffic law violation.  An average speeding citation for ten miles over the speed limit in Fillmore County costs $130.  The Department of Energy states that for every five mph over 50 mph, it's like paying another 19 cents per gallon in fuel costs.  And you really don't save that much in travel time!  From AAA, travel time for a 30-mile road trip at 55 miles an hour is 32.7 minutes.  That same trip at 65 miles per hour is 27.7 minutes, you have saved only five minutes!  Please slow down and be safe on our roadways.  For any questions or concerns, contact the Fillmore County Sheriff's Office at 507-765-3874.
