Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Motorists can expect faster speeds on two-lane state highways across Minnesota this spring.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is increasing speeds on 5,240 miles of state highways after a five-year study released this week recommended to do so. The speeds will increase from 55 to 60 miles per hour. Sections of Highway 14, 52 and 63 in the Rochester area will be changed, including:

  • Highway 14 between Rochester to Lewiston and between Owatonna and Dodge Center
  • Highway 52 between I-90 and Iowa border
  • Highway 63 between Rochester and Lake City and between Stewartville and Iowa border

According to the report, Of the 7,000 miles studied, the speed limit will be increased on 77 percent of rural, two-lane state highways. Most of the new speed limit sign postings are in place, and the rest are expected to be up by spring of 2019.
