It was another beautiful night for High School Football as we saw more incredible finishes to games across Southeast Minnesota.
St. Charles Forces Late Turnover En Route To 40-32 Win Over Dover-Eyota
St. Charles' Brady Koeppel intercepted a pass late in the 4th quarter that led to a touchdown drive that was capped off by a Noah Disbrow 49-yard touchdown to help the Saints take down the Eagles last night in St. Charles 40-32. The game was broadcasted on 103.1 KFIL last night.
It was a game that had everything. The Saints started the game with big plays on the ground getting a 53-yard touchdown from Disbrow to start the scoring, and then the next possessions the Saints got a 50-yard touchdown from Koeppel to build a 16-0 lead.
On the ensuing kickoff, Dover-Eyota's Brayden Swee took it to the house, an 85-yard touchdown that sparked the Eagles scoring 20 unanswered points including touchdown runs from Levi Williams and Gavin Gust. The Eagles led 20-16 at the break.
St. Charles continued its strong run game in the second half, utilizing some strong runs from Jet Thoreson, Disbrow, and Koeppel to help get the lead back. The Saints got a third-quarter touchdown Thoreson to retake the lead at 22-20.
It was back and forth again between these two squads as Koeppel scored for St. Charles to start the 4th quarter and built the Saints a 28-20 lead, and then Williams scored on a 20-yard run to make it 28-26.
The Saints and Eagles traded touchdowns again to make it 34-32. On the Eagles' final touchdown, Williams connected with Nolan Thompson for a 29-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed, so it stayed 34-32. The Eagles then recovered an onside kick and started their drive to take the lead, but that is when Koeppel intercepted a Williams pass that eventually led to the Disbrow touchdown and the Saints closing out a 40-32 victory.
Disbrow finished with 230 yards and two scores for St. Charles, Thoreson added 96 yards and a score. Koeppel ran in two touchdowns on 85 yards.
Williams paced Dover-Eyota on the ground with 76 yards and two scores, while Gust added 55 yards and a touchdown.
The win pushed St. Charles to 2-4 on the season, while Dover-Eyota fell to 2-4. The Saints take on Lewiston-Altura next week, while the Eagles take on Chatfield.
Owatonna Takes Down John Marshall 41-0
The Huskies pitched a shutout as they took down the Rockets. The Huskies have won three straight by a combined score of 118-14. They take on New Prague next week. John Marshall fell to 1-5 and will take on cross-town rival Rochester Century next week.
#4 Stewartville Holds On To Top #5 Kasson-Mantorville 28-21
The Stewartville Tigers were able to stay undefeated with a 28-21 win over Kasson-Mantorville on the Tigers Homecoming Friday night. The Tigers are now 6-0 and will take on Winona next week. The KoMets are now 4-2 and will battle Red Wing next week.
#6 Rushford-Peterson Stays Undefeated With 47-8 Win Over Randolph
The Trojans are on a roll as they moved to 6-0 with the win over Randolph last night. Rushford-Peterson played stellar defense in the win over the Rockets. The Trojans will look to continue their winning way next week against Hayfield. The Rockets are now 3-3 will take on Kenyon-Wanamingo next week.
Houston Attacks Through The Air in 28-14 Win Over Mabel-Canton
The Hurricanes threw the ball well in their 28-14 win over the Cougars Friday night in Mabel. The Hurricanes have now won two straight games and are 2-4. They take on LeRoy-Ostrander next week and we will have the action on 103.1 KFIL. Mabel-Canton fell to 3-3 with the loss and will take on Lanesboro next week.
#9 Plainview-Elgin-Millville Takes Down Pine Island 35-14
The Bulldogs have won two in a row now after a win over the Panthers of Pine Island. The Bulldogs take on #6 ranked Cannon Falls next week and are 5-1 on the season. Pine Island fell to 1-5 with the loss and take on LaCrescent next week.
Caledonia Tops Rochester Lourdes 15-0 On Homecoming
The Caledonia Warrior defense was great again as the Warriors got a win at home over a tough Rochester Lourdes team. The Warriors are now 2-4 on the season and will take on Triton next week in Caledonia. The Eagles fell to 1-5 with the loss and will take on Zumbrota-Mazeppa next week.
Fillmore Central Takes Down Kenyon-Wanamingo 27-8
The Fillmore Central Falcons used a balanced attack including 200+ total yards from Alec Sikkink to take down the Knights last night. That is four wins in a row for Fillmore Central who are now 5-1 on the season. They will take on Wabasha-Kellogg next week in Harmony while the Knights fell to 2-4 on the season and will battle Randolph next week.
#6 Cannon Falls Tops LaCrescent 54-12
The Bombers got back on the winning side after a tough loss to Chatfield last week. The Bombs are now 5-1 on the year while the Lancers fell to 0-6. The Bombers will take on PEM next week while the Lancers will take on Pine Island.
#8 Rochester Mayo Takes Down New Prague 45-0
The Rochester Mayo Spartans fell to Mankato West last week but were able to bounce back with a nice win over New Prague on Homecoming last night. Mayo is now 5-1 on the year and will take on Austin next week. New Prague fell to 4-2 on the season and will take on Owatonna next week.
#8 Chatfield Plays Great Defense In 40-14 Win Over Goodhue
The Gophers forced five turnovers en route to the big win at home. Chatfield has won five straight and is 5-1 on the year and has a tough matchup with St. Charles next week. The Wildcats are now 4-2 and battle #1 ranked in Class AAA Lake City in Goodhue.
#2 Lanesboro Tops Nicollett 64-20
The Burros' offense was cruising once again as they put up 64 points in the win to stay undefeated and move to 6-0 on the season. The Burros will take on Mabel-Canton next week, while Nicollet fell to 1-5 on the season.
#1 Lake City Takes Down Zumbrota-Mazeppa 40-7
Make it six straight wins for Lake City as they took down Zumbrota-Mazeppa this week. The #1 ranked Tigers have a big matchup with Goodhue next week and then will battle Cannon Falls to wrap up their season in the final week of the season in Lake City. The Cougars fell to 1-5 and will travel to take on Rochester Lourdes next week.
Northfield Tops Rochester Century 28-14 on Century's Homecoming
The Century Panthers fell to 1-5 with a tough loss to a solid Northfield squad Friday night. The Panthers will take on cross-town rival Rochester John Marshall next week at JM. Northfield moved to 3-3 with the win and takes on #1 Mankato West next week.
LeRoy-Ostrander Shuts Down Spring Grove in 46-6 Win
LeRoy-Ostrander's defense shut down a talented Spring Grove squad en route to the 46-6 win. The Cardinals are now 4-2 on the year and host Houston next week. We will have the action on 103.1 KFIL. The Lions fell to 2-3 on the year and take on Kingsland next week.
Hayfield Holds Off Winona Cotter 28-26
The Hayfield Vikings picked up the win over Cotter last night to move to 2-4 on the season. Cotter scored with 50 seconds left to make it 28-26, but failed the two-point conversion. The Vikings then recovered the onside kick to secure the win. Cotter is now 2-4 and will take on Faribault B.A next week. The Vikings will take on undefeated Rushford-Peterson next week in Hayfield.
Triton Upends Lewiston-Altura in Double OT 43-42
A wild game in Lewiston as the Cardinals and Cobras went into double OT to get a winner. The Cardinals and Cobras both scored in the first OT and converted their two-point conversions. The Cardinals scored and converted a PAT on their first possession of double OT, while the Cobras scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion to get the 43-42 win.
Kingsland Takes Down Lyle/Pacelli 54-6
The Kingsland Knights are now 3-3 after a big win over Lyle/Pacelli last night in a very impressive offensive showing. The Knights will travel to take on Spring Grove next week. Lyle/Pacelli fell to 0-5 and will battle Grand Meadow next week.
Faribault B.A Tops Wabasha-Kellogg 54-6
The Cardinals of B.A took down the Falcons to move to 5-1 on the year. The Falcons fell to 0-6 and will take on Fillmore Central next week. B.A will battle with Winona Cotter.
