Southeast Minnesota Teen Killed In Traffic Wreck

Poweshiek County, Iowa (KROC AM News) - A Spring Valley teenager was killed in a traffic wreck in Poweshiek County, Iowa Saturday night.

The Iowa State Patrol says 19-year-old Trenton Merkel was traveling northbound on Highway 146 near the intersection of 340th St around 11 pm when the vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a pickup truck driven by 23-year-old David Montealegre of Grinnell, Iowa.

Merkel was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and the crash is still under investigation.
