It was a busy Saturday of high school basketball at the Mayo Civic Center and now the Section Finals are set in Section 1A and 1AA girls basketball.

The day started with #4 seeded Winona Cotter topping #1 Lake City 53-38, then the hot shooting of #2 Caledonia led them past #3 Rochester Lourdes 74-64. #4 Lyle/Pacelli then shocked #1 Grand Meadow at the buzzer 54-52. #2 Goodhue then beat #3 Hayfield 38-29 to advance to the Section 1A Final.

Our afternoon on 103.1 KFIL started with the hot shooting of the Warriors. Senior Katie Tornstrom put the offense on her back, hitting five 3s on five straight possessions to help the Warriors build a 24-9 lead in the first half. Tornstrom had 24 points at the break to help Caledonia lead 43-27.

Rochester Lourdes cut the lead all the way down to five at one point, 53-48 with 11:56 to play, but again the Warriors found their offense. Tornstrom finished with 35 points, Heidi Bolduan finished with 11, Kaitlin Conniff had 18 as the senior-led Warriors earned a 74-64 win to advance to the Section 1AA Title Game against Cotter, Thursday at 8 p.m.

In the Section 1A Semifinals, #1 Grand Meadow took on #4 Lyle/Pacelli in what was a barnburner from start to finish. The Athletics led for a majority of the first half, but Grand Meadow was able to make some plays late and got some great shooting from Riley Queensland to take a 23-21 lead into the half.

Grand Meadow then built a lead all the way up to 13 in the second half, leading 39-26 with around 9 minutes to play. Then, L/P got into the bouns and began their run back, eventually taking a 52-49 lead with just 27 seconds to go.

Grand Meadow's Skylar Cotton then drilled a 3 to tie the game at 52 with 10 seconds to go, L/P pushed the ball up the floor and had an open look from Lucy Nelson, Nelson missed the shot but an offensive rebound by the Athletics turned into a put-back chance fro Abigail Bolingberg and she sunk it at the buzzer sending L/P to the section final with a 54-52 win.

L/P will take on Goodhue in the section final Thursday at 6:00 pm. Queensland finished with 19, Jordyn Glynn added 19 to lead Grand Meadow. Olivia Christianson had 22 for L/P while Lucy Nelson added 14.
