Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester teenager is being described as “one lucky guy.” This after he shot himself in the head and lived to tell police about it.

Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says the 16-year-old was outside his home with a friend when the incident happened.

Moilanen says the teenager was holding a handgun and decided to point it at his head, not knowing it was loaded. He pulled the trigger but survived with only a graze wound. He was taken to St. Marys Hospital where he was told the bullet did not penetrate his head.

Moilanen says the teen’s friend fled with the gun before officers arrived and it’s not known what caliber it is. The teenager thought it was a 9mm.

The incident that was classified as an "accidental shooting"  happened around 12:45 PM Saturday in the 2800 block of Northern Valley Dr NE.
