Rochester Public Schools Superintendent Contract To Be Voted On
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It was a month ago when the Rochester School Board offered the district’s top job to interim Superintendent Kent Pekel and he accepted.
The district has now worked out an employment contract with Pekel to serve as superintendent for the next three school years.
It calls for a salary of $223,000 for the 2022-2023 school year; $227,500.00 for the 2023- 2024 school year; and $232,000.00 for the 2024-2025 school year.
Pekel will also receive other compensation that includes a tax-sheltered annuity with a matching contribution, vacation days and paid holidays, 25 days of vacation annually, accrual of sick leave days, bereavement leave days, monthly automobile allowance, and health, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance. The school board is scheduled to vote on the recommended contract at its Tuesday evening meeting.
The board is also scheduled to act on an employment request involving one of its members. It involves board member Melissa Amundsen, who is also seeking to be employed by the district as a substitute teacher.
Under state law, a school board member may be employed by the district as an employee if there is a reasonable expectation that the amount of money to person will be paid will not exceed $8,000 in that fiscal year. The person must also receive school board approval.
