Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Federal authorities are teaming up with Rochester police investigators in response to an incident this week involving an explosive device.

Rochester Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says officers were called to a residence in the Slattery Park neighborhood around 2:30 Monday morning. They learned an object that had been put in a tree in the 900 block of 9th St SE had exploded. It was powerful enough to break windows of two nearby homes.

Moilanen says the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has been brought in to assist in the investigation. He says it is not known at this time if this was a random incident or if a nearby residence was targeted.

Moilanen says anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Rochester Police Department or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
