Rochester Man Injured in Crash Involving Repeat DUI Offender
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man on probation for a felony DUI conviction was involved in a traffic crash Saturday evening that sent another Rochester man to the hospital.
The State Patrol says 23-year-old Harvey Friederichs was transported to St. Marys Hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the pickup he was driving was rear-ended by another pickup while both vehicles were traveling east on I-90 just before the Highway 16 interchange near Dexter. His 21-year-old passenger was not hurt.
The State Patrol says the driver of the second pickup, 32-year-old Jacob Kaput of Rochester, also escaped injury. The crash report also indicates alcohol was detected in his system and court records show Kaput has had four drunk driving-related convictions, including a felony-level DUI conviction in Freeborn County last year. In that case, he was given a stayed prison term and was placed on probation for 7-years.
The crash was reported around 7:40 pm.
(The original post incorrectly indicated the vehicle driven by Kaput had been rear-ended.)
