Rochester Man Arrested for DUI After High Speed Chase
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man was arrested over the weekend after leading an officer on a high-speed chase that ended in a northwest neighborhood.
Motorists in the Byron area began calling 911 around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night to report a driver who was weaving and driving in and out of the ditch along eastbound Highway 14.
An Olmsted County deputy caught up with the man after he exited Highway 14 and was stopped at the traffic light at West Circle Drive. The deputy knocked on the man’s window after discovering he was sleeping. Instead of getting out of the pickup truck, the man took off, heading north on West Circle Drive at speeds of 70 to 80 mile per hour.
The deputy followed the man as he turned east onto 41st Street and and then into the Lincolnshire neighborhood. The man finally stopped at his home in the 3600 block of Nottingham Drive.
The man, identified as 59-year-old Wayne Banks, was arrested after he failed a field sobriety test. A breath test also indicated he had a blood/alcohol level of .13.
