Rochester City Council To Review Transit, 6th St Bridge Proposals
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester City Council will discuss two large downtown transportation projects Monday.
One is the planned bus rapid transit route along 2nd St SW.
The project is currently in the design phase and a proposed change in the original route will be discussed. Planners are now proposing a new transit station on 6th St SE, west of 3rd Ave SE. That would accommodate those using the Mayo Clinic parking lot in that area.
Staff says this "would eliminate a one-direction loop by removing 4th St/S. Broadway from the original planned route. It would also add a westbound station at the public library".
The council will be asked to give staff direction to the design team to advance evaluation and design of the proposed changes as well as a revised budget and timeline.
The other project to be discussed is a proposed 6th St bridge over the Zumbro River near the former AMPI site.
Staff is offering two design concepts. One has an estimated cost of $18-million, the other is $20-million.
