The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Preston until 8:30 pm Monday.

Heavy rains hit the Fillmore County area Saturday night, which caused flooding on some major roadways as well as flooding near Spring Valley, Grand Meadow, LeRoy and more.

After the rains moved through the area, the NWS issued a flood warning for Preston. The heavy rain has resulted in rising river levels along portions of
the Root River. River forecasts take into account both observed and forecast
precipitation.

The NWS wants to remind area residents to not drive cars into flooded areas, and that it only takes two feet of water to float most automobiles, including sport utility
vehicles.

Here is the breakdown of the flood warning from the NWS:

  • The South Branch Root River at Preston.
  • until Monday evening...Or until the warning is canceled.
  • Flood stage is 937.0 feet.
  • Forecast...The river is forecast to rise to near 937.4 feet this
    evening.
