The Chatfield Gophers used a great start on the mound along with power at the plate to top the Rushford-Peterson Trojans 10-0 in Rushford Thursday night in Three Rivers Conference action.

The Gophers were leading 2-0 in the top of the fifth when sophomore Henry Gathje hit a two-run home run to make it 4-0. Gathje followed up the two-run blast with a three-run shot in the fourth to make it 7-0. The Gophers were off and running from there as Gathje did a great job as the starting pitcher for Chatfield, shutting down a tough Rushford-Peterson lineup.

The Trojans got back-to-back hits to lead off the fourth inning but were unable to push a run across to cut into the lead. Senior Lincoln Salisbury hit a two-run triple for Chatfield to make it 9-0 then Max Aug drove in Salisbury to make it 10-0.

Seth Allen pitched the final frame for Chatfield and sent the Trojans down in order with three strikeouts.

Gathje picked up the win on the hill and went 3-for-3 with six RBI and two runs scored to lead Chatfield. Allen, Salisbury and Aug also drove in runs for Chatfield.

Korey Burroughs took the loss for Rushford-Peterson, while Malachi Bunke and Carter Weidemann picked up hits for the Trojans.

The win gets Chatfield to a record of 5-1, while Rushford-Peterson falls to 4-2 on the season.
