A popular Lanesboro restaurant is closed until further notice, according to their own Facebook page.

Riverside on the Root, a popular restaurant that served the Lanesboro and area for many years decided to close its doors until further notice.

Nobody ever wants to hear of a local restaurant closing, especially when it comes so unexpectedly. Hopefully, the restaurant can open back up soon as it was a nice destination for area residents and campers.

According to the restaurant's website, Riverside on the Root has been family owned since 1992 and was originally the Northern Iowa Oil Company in the 1930s.

Here is the restaurant's story from their website:

"In the 50’s it became a city car garage and car wash. Later to be purchased as the Johnson Fur Company. It was then purchased in the 80’s as a rental store for canoes.

In 1999 Mike and Julie Charlebois purchased Riverside on the Root and started their dream of owning and building the Riverside on the Root opening the restaurant in July of 2001. As it is now 3 of the walls partially exist. When they added on there was no sewer, one outside water hydrant and three electrical outlets in the building. What a dream! Because the marriage of the two businesses out grew each, Root River Outfitters moved 2 locations North in 2010."

Here is to hoping the restaurant opens back up soon, and if this is the end, a big thank you and good luck to the owners and everyone who worked at Riverside on the Root.
