Wisconsin might traditionally be known for its beer, but Minnesota is home to one of the 32 Hottest Breweries In America Right Now, according to a new national survey.

I've long said (despite my being a Wisconsin native) that in the last 6 or 7 years, the craft breweries that have opened here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes are some of the best in the country.

And, now, yet another national survey backs up my point. According to this Thrillist article that lists the 32 Hottest Breweries In America Right Now, Minnesota is well-represented by the Barrel Theory Brewing Company in St. Paul.

The story explains how Barrel Theory opened in 2017, and was founded by former employees of Surly Brewing-- the granddaddy of craft brewing here in Minnesota. It explains what the name means, essentially that any brewery is only as good as its worst beer.  But, the story says, "there’s hardly a worst beer here, with IPAs of all types, pilsners, stouts, Berliner weisses and more keeping regulars coming back for more."

I'd agree! My wife and I stopped in at Barrel Theory's tap room, located on 7th Street in Lowertown St. Paul, (about an hour and 15 minutes north of Rochester) last fall, and really liked their beers. I enjoyed their Boat Shoes IPA as well as their Shooter McGavin Double IPA.

So, congrats, Barrel Theory, on being named to this cool, national survey. Cheers!
