Olmsted County: Chester Woods Closing For Veterans Deer Hunt
Every year, November 11th is Veteran's Day, when government office close, banks close and, as it turns out, Chester Woods closes. More on that in a second. Veteran's Day is a Federal Holiday many confuse with Memorial Day (and vice versa).
Veterans Day is distinct from Memorial Day. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who had died while in military service. (Source)
Why Is Chester Woods Closing November 11, 2021?
For the hunt! Chester Woods will close November 11 - November 14, 2021, for The Disabled Veteran’s shotgun deer hunt. The hunt takes place to harvest a sufficient number of deer to keep the herd healthy and manageable.
First Your Hearing About the Hunt?
- Applicant must be a service-connected disabled veteran. Parties of up to two may register on a single form.
- You may submit an application to the Chester Woods DAV hunt or the Oxbow Park DAV hunt, but not both.
- Successful applicants will be issued a written permission slip allowing them to hunt within the park. Picture identification, a current year's deer license, and at least one disease management harvest tag must be provided when picking up the permission slip.
- If you have any questions, please contact Olmsted County Public Works Department at (507) 328-7070.
