St Paul (KROC-AM News) - Two new state laws that are now on the books in Minnesota deal with motorists and a third is aimed at Minnesotans who vape and/or use e-cigarettes.

They took effect at 12:01 AM Thursday.

The new law allows a driver to use their cell phone to make calls, text, listen to music or podcasts and get directions, but only by voice commands or single-touch activation without holding the phone. Drivers may not hold your phone in your hand. Also, a driver may not use their phone at any time for video calling, video live-streaming, Snapchat, gaming, looking at video or photos stored on the phone, using non-navigation apps, reading texts and scrolling or typing on the phone.

The state also now has a so-called Slow Poke law in effect. This means drivers are in the left lane of the highway and are not keeping pace with the flow of traffic can be ticketed if they don’t move over for faster-traveling vehicles.

The use of e-cigs and vaping devices are now included in the state’s Clean Indoor Air Act. This means vaping and e-cigarettes are no longer allowed in public indoor buildings, which includes restaurants, bars, and almost all indoor workplaces and public spaces.
