Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester Fire Department is publicizing a new program that allows residents and property owners to safely share life safety information that could aid the fire department in its response to emergencies.

It's called Community Connect and is being touted as a secure online platform that uses bank-level encryption and security. A news release says a voluntary program is included with a larger software conversion called Fire Due that is designed to provide responders with key information during emergency situations.

The information that would be collected includes occupant and contact info, medical and functional needs, home access, utilities, and pets. The medical and functional needs information could be crucial in the event someone living in the home would need assistance in evacuating, such as a person with mobility, hearing, or visual problems.

Information concerning the home access and utilities could aid firefighters or other responders by providing them with garage codes and the location of gas and water shut-off valves.

Chief Eric Kerska shares, “One key priority in using and promoting this tool is to keep those that may be more vulnerable or need assistance in the event of an emergency as safe and cared for as possible. Giving our residents the ability to share with us their specific needs will allow us to keep Rochester much safer. To do this, we need all residents and families to go online and complete their free secure profile.”

To learn more about the program or to register, visit the City of Rochester Community Connect website.
