Austin, MN (KROC AM News) - The first woman to be elected sheriff in Minnesota has decided this will be her last year on the job.

Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi is planning to retire when her term expires at the end of this year.

She has served as Mower County Sheriff since 2002.  Amazi began her career with the sheriff’s office in 1988 working in the jail and became a deputy the following year.

She says one of her career highlights was winning county approval of an ordinance dealing with methamphetamine labs that was later used as a model for a state law.
