1818-Cadwallader C. Washburn is born. He was a pioneer in the state's flour-milling industry. He built the first mill at St. Anthony Falls in 1866.
1903-Alexander Ramsey dies at age 88. He was Minnesota's first territorial governor and second state governor.
1911-The law abolishing the death penalty in Minnesota is signed by governor Adolph O. Eberhart
