When Minnesotans think of pests, I think a majority of us immediately think of mosquitos. Frankly, they are one of the few things that can ruin a beautiful summer night in Minnesota.

The team at Pest Strategies feels differently, apparently. At least the folks they surveyed do. The team completed a survey that talked to over 3,500 people and come to find that the pest that Minnesotans hate the most is the cockroach.

Cockroaches never come to mind as being a huge pest problem in Minnesota. The first pest that a majority of us think of is the mosquito, and maybe that is because we have been bitten by so many?

Cockroaches were ranked as the #1 most hated pest in the country as 27.3% percent of respondents said they were the worst.

Mosquitos came in at #4, behind spiders and bed bugs.

But why cockroaches? Well, the Pest Strategies had a little bit of insight on that including that they can live for 7 days without their head.

"Cockroaches were here when dinosaurs roamed the Earth --  but unlike prehistoric reptiles, cockroaches have survived hundreds of millions of years. Their resilience makes them a formidable foe as they can survive without food for a month, without water for two weeks, and without a head for 7 days"

For real? 7 days? Yeah, they don't need their brains, they just need their head for eating and drinking (which is why they die without a head, eventually). So, it could even be longer than 7 days.

You can check out the full study for yourself, but know that surveying only around 3,500 people to account for the entire country is rather small. Maybe 3,500 for each state would make a difference?

Either way, I'll always say that mosquitos are the worst pest in Minnesota, no matter how many days a cockroach can live without its head.
